Throw a raw, experimental beat in with some serious shit-talking and a dash of clownin’, and you’ll get Seattle-based emcee, Mavo Rhymes. Born in Florida and settling in the emerald city at 8 years old, his childhood reads like his music- plenty of up and downs, but always interesting. His dad was his main influence when it comes to music- and Mavo developed a love for it all, especially hip hop and jazz. His favorite group growing up was the Beastie Boys- a direct reflection of his rebellious nature, boredom with school, and love for trouble. Mavo’s been writing since the 6th grade, and began battle rapping soon after. He credits his initial creative spark to Dr. Suess, and his musical development to his biggest inspiration- Eminem. He has truly created his own distinct, eclectic style based on a unique mix of influences, from Busta Rhymes to KRS1 to Schoolboy Q.

At the age of 17, Mavo Rhymes linked up with two other young emcees to create the hip hop collective, Munk Bizz. With the help of Esai and Monkey Do, Mavo released his first mix-tape “The Sound”. He recorded his first solo record, “Mad & Vocalized” soon after, and doesn’t plan on stopping. As the oldest member of Munk Bizz, Mavo plays a critical role in the crew as a leader- a crucial balance of passion and antics. Mavo’s main motivation is family, and his main goal is simple- to take care of those who took care of him.
